  Montejha (Mon-Tay-Jah) | INTRO

  “So, what you gon’ do, Tejha?” My best friend, Yani, asked me. I shrugged. I didn’t really know what to do at this point. I was nineteen years old, pregnant, with no real income, aside from my cash I had in my safe. I mean, this news knocked me off my feet, I couldn’t believe it. Bad enough I had just been released from jail, but the news I received in their was crazy as fuck.

  “I don’t know, Kaiyani, I’m so scared. I mean, what I look like being somebody’s momma? Like, I transport drugs from city to city,” I frowned. She just shook her head.

  “I told you not to fall into that nigga’s trap, Tejha,” she stressed.

  “You were so right, Yani, I’m sorry,” I told her. She just hugged me once again. We had been through a lot together, but one thing about my friend, was that she never judges me. She always had my back, and that was hard to come by these days.

  “It’s gon’ be okay, Tejha. We gon’ be straight. Hell, even if you come stay with me, and we stack up for a few months, take out a loan so you can do that microblading class you been wanting to do. I know you’d be good at it, Tejha, you just need to get your head on straight,” Yani preached to me. I shed a few tears just listening to her and nodding. She was so right, I was going to go home, to my actual apartment, and just stay away from him. After sticking around her house for a few, I finally decided to head home. I was exhausted and couldn’t wait to climb in my comfortable pillowtop bed.

  As soon as I walked in, I could smell the weed before opening the door good. I was instantly annoyed at the smell, I took pride in keeping my apartment smelling and looking good. I turned on my light, kicking my shoes off at the door, and removing my jacket. Walking in my bedroom, he laid there knocked out, not having a care in the world. Must be fucking nice. I stripped out of my clothes, and quickly went to take another shower. Coming from that dirty ass place, I couldn’t take enough showers if we were being honest. Scrubbing my skin with my soap, as the piping hot water penetrated my skin, soothing me with every drop.

  “Wassup, sexy? You just sneak in and don’t speak? I been worried about you,” Oden’s irritating voice interrupted my thoughts. He had a scratchy voice, it was like he had phlegm in his throat, you know when you’re sick. Except for he was never sick, he just always sounded stuffed up. But he had the nerve to act like what just happened didn’t happen.

  “We need to talk,” I told him, turning off the shower, grabbing my towel. He licked his lips and stared at me climbing out the shower naked.

  “What’s up?” He followed me to my bedroom.

  “Why did you put that shit in my purse Oden, do you know what I’m facing because of you,” I snapped.

  “It’s nothing compared to what I would be facing. Tejha it’s cool baby, I’ma take care of you,” he assured. That was a lie, because he was gone way before I was released. I was so tired of him lying to me constantly.

  “Do you love me, Oden?” I asked him.

  “Of course, I got love for you, Tejha,” he stressed.

  “Yeah, but do you love me?” I reiterated.

  “What’s all this about? Where you going with this? I got more important shit to talk about, like this delivery I need you to do for me tomorrow,” he started. I instantly shook my head no.

  “What the fuck you mean no?” He quickly stood. See this was why I had to get out this relationship, he was toxic man, like a cancer. His entire mood changed.

  “What I said, no, Oden, I’m pregnant,” I started. Before I could finish, this nigga tried to smack the black off me, before choking me.

  “Bitch, you fucking my shit up! The fuck you mean you pregnant?” He growled, while choking me. I kneed him in the stomach, making him release my neck, while quickly putting on a shirt.

  “What I said, I’m pregnant, and I told you last time I’m not making no more runs for you. I don’t even wanna be in this fucked up relationship no more. All you do is take from me, I’m not benefitting nothing from you. You’re a fucking sorry ass nigga. What type of man plants drugs in his girlfriend’s purse,” I yelled.

  “Keep yo got damn voice down and what the fuck you mean? Don’t I keep yo pocket’s fat? Don’t I keep you laced from head to toe? Hell, don’t I keep yo big ass fed? You look mighty fucking healthy to me and they ain’t gone give you no time so stop whining,” he insulted me. I rolled my eyes.

  “You’re really corny for that, Oden, I don’t need you for nothing honestly. You need me, I keep
my own pockets fat, bitch, and take care of myself, and you, if we wanna be real,” I snapped.

  “Whatever, bitch, get rid of that baby,” he spat. I looked at him like he was crazy.

  “And be ready tomorrow by noon,” he zipped his fly. I shook my head no, silently. He walked toward me, and I knew he was going to try and use his intimidation tactic on me. But I wasn’t scared of him no more. He was a punk ass, pussy ass, nigga, and he pumped no fear in my heart. He went to stroke my cheek, but I smacked his hand away. He had done that shit too many times for me to fall for his stroke, then choke play.

  “So, what you telling me, Montejha? You’re telling me you not going to get rid of that baby?” He smirked. I nodded yes. No, I wasn’t getting rid of my baby.

  “I don’t need you in our child’s life, we’ll be fine. Don’t worry,” I told him. He nodded.

  “And you’re not doing that delivery tomorrow for me,” he asked.

  “Nope,” I popped the p. I saw him clench his jaw. Fuck him.

  “Okay, remember that,” he nodded, and stormed out of my apartment, and hopefully, my life forever.

  ~~~
  A few days had passed since I’d seen, or heard from, Oden. I called my landlord and scheduled to get my locks changed, and my phone number changed. I was fucking done with Oden, and I meant what I said when I said I was leaving him completely alone. I had plans to start my business, my bestie had been telling me I should do in the first place. I was doing make up, and was very well known in my city for slaying brows and strip lashes, but with ripping and running for Oden, I barely had time to really do make up like I wanted to. So, why not get into the business of microblading and lash extensions, making more money? I went home to grab some money out of my safe to put in my bank account for my classes I was going to sign up for. But when I walked in, I could feel something was wrong.
  If I wasn’t a neat freak, I wouldn’t have noticed, but I knew I didn’t leave that remote right there, I left it on the table, and I left my blinds in my living room open. I walked in my room, in my closet, and my worst fear was true. This bitch ass nigga had stolen all my money I saved up, and I was furious. I couldn’t even cry I was so pissed. I shakily called his number blocked and he answered on the first ring with his squeaky ass voice.
  “What’s up?” He answered.
  “Where are you at, Oden?” I asked him.
  “Shit, I’m at the trap, baby mama. What’s up? I knew you’d come to your senses,” he chuckled, into the phone. I shook my head.
  “Give me my fucking bread back, Oden! Who the fuck you think you are, breaking into my apartment, stealing my hard-earned money?” I yelled at him.
  “Bitch, every coin you got was from me, if it wasn’t for me, you wouldn’t have ate. Seeing as how you forgot that, I figured I’d remind you,” he chuckled. I just sat there thinking of ways I could get away with murder.
  “Okay, so? You ready to make that run for me or not? You can get all your money back, plus ten thou,” he bargained.
  “Which house you at?” I asked.
  After he told me, I headed to his trap house where all his thirsty ass friends stood outside admiring my beauty and booty. I was so mad, I might just kill Oden today. I walked in the house and immediately ran into Oden and some little hoe coming around the corner. She was wiping her mouth, and smiling like she had just won an award.
  “I’mma get at you later, baby,” he smacked her on the ass, while smiling at me.
  “Damn, baby, you looking good,” he tried to hug me. I instantly started swinging on him.
  “Where’s my fucking money at?” I yelled at him. He was trying to block my shots, but was unsuccessful, until he countered my right hook with his left.
  “Damn, bitch. I told you to stop fucking hitting me,” he spat, as my nose and lip instantly gushed with blood.
  “Run me my fucking money, Oden! I’m not playing with you,” I screamed at him, decking him dead in the face. Just like the coward I knew he was, he hit me back like I was a full-blown man in the streets. Not gon’ lie, that hit had me seeing stars for a minute, but I regained my composure.
  “I told you how you can make yo money back,” he spat.
  “Oden, I told you I was out. There is no way around that, you violated. Calling my landlord, lying, so you could get into my home. What type of man does that?” I spat.
  “A man that’s willing to do whatever it takes. You better make a move, before it’s too late. You gon’ need the money, seeing how you about to be a single parent and all,” he smirked. I tried to slap that smirk off his face, and almost succeeded, until I heard some one say, “aye, your wife pulling up.” It was as if I heard nails scraping the chalk board. Wife? I know you fucking lying.
  “Wife?” I asked him. He just started laughing, and shrugged as some thick, white girl, came through the door. She was scowling at me, staring me up and down.
  “Babe, what the fuck is going on in here?” She asked, walking up to him. Okay, now I wasn’t expecting for her to come off like that, nor did I expect for Oden to be married, and let alone, to a white girl. Hell, to the fucking no. I knew I looked crazy as hell right now, but I was standing there in utter shock. A wife, a whole wife, my nigga. Are you serious? I felt sick, I was disgusted. I was sleeping with a married man.
  “Nothing, just one of my workers,” Oden’s stupid voice snapped me out of my trance.
  “Oh, well, it looks like it’s more than that. Look like y’all were fighting or something,” she gave me a nasty look.
  “I didn’t know he was married. I apologize to you woman to woman, but you don’t gotta worry about me after today. After you give me what I came here for, Oden,” I said, as calmly as I could.
  “You didn’t know he was married? Oh, so y’all had something going on?” She spat, rolling her sleeves up on her shirt. I looked at her with an eyebrow raised. Because I’ll be damned if I be punked by this bitch, but I’m not trying to take it there with her.
  “As I just stated,” I started, but Oden interrupted.
  “Rhonda, I had to fuck her. I don’t feel nothing for this bitch, I had to secure her as one of my workers, baby,” Oden coaxed her. My nostrils flared, this nigga had been playing me the whole time. It was okay though, I just needed my money. I wasn’t even moved by his confession, because a part of me knew. Which is why I told him I wasn’t doing that anymore.
  “Oden, give me my fucking bread, so I can go,” I spat.
  “What you gon’ do, call the police? Go head, baby, take that L,” he chuckled. I shook my head. I wasn’t leaving without my money, that’s on my niece.
  “I’m not taking shit,” I growled.
  “Bitch, that’s your best bet. Just go ahead and leave, boo,” Rhonda spat, and took a few steps toward me. Oden quickly stood in front of her, laughing.
  “Chill, baby,” he told her. I stared up at him.
  “You know I’ll beat this bitch ass, right?” I told him, seriously. He kept laughing like it was funny. Snow bunny wanted to get buck, like she was really about that action. I just let her talk, while hiding behind Oden. I wasn’t fazed by her, I wanted my fucking cheese, that’s all. I couldn’t go to school without my money. Sure, I had what, a couple of bands in the bank, but I needed my twenty g’s from my safe, period.
  “Chill, Tejha. I’ll bring you your money later,” he suggested.
  “If you don’t bring my shit back by midnight, I’ll be back here taking my shit,” I grabbed my purse and walked out.
  “Is that a threat?” He asked, as I kept walking.
  “That’s right, you black ass, hoe. Keep fucking walking, bitch. You ain’t getting shit, and I’mma make sure of it,” she spat, at my back. I quickly spun around and barked.
  “Bitch, if I don’t have my money by midnight, I bet you I do get my shit. If I gotta take it, I’ll be coming through this bitch like a thief in the night, to get my shit,” I yelled at her.
  “What’sup, bitch? Take it right now,” she clappe
d her hands. I politely walked to sit my purse in my car, before putting my hair up in a sleek bun to the back. This bitch had me tight, I was about to break her face. I stepped in the middle of the street.
  “Come on, bitch, you so tough. I ain’t said shit to you this whole time, I even apologized to you. But you talking too tough for me. Bitch, run it, come on,” I called her out. She was hooping and hollering behind Oden at the fence, so I walked to the fence.
  “Gon’, Rhonda, I’m not about to let you fig,” Oden couldn’t finish his sentence, cause I had picked up a brick and clapped his stupid ass, instantly making him let her go. I backed up, as she came at me wildly. I started throwing them bitches, knocking her fucking head back a few times, before hitting her with a hard right to make her hit the ground. Before I could do her dirty, I was hit so fucking hard, I hit the ground like a ton of bricks. Whew, a bitch was seeing fucking stars, as I shakily tried to pick myself up. I heard sirens and my vision was cloudy, I was trying not to fucking cry, but I knew Oden had socked the shit outta my ass. My right eye was fucked up. Rhonda’s hoe ass started stomping me, like she had actually beat my ass.
  “That’s so fucked up, y’all wrong as hell for that shit. Come on, shorty, get up,” somebody attempted to helped me up. I couldn’t even get up good before I fell right back down. I was so damn dizzy, and it was then the thought of a living being inside of me finally clicked. I was out here fighting like I had nothing to lose. I couldn’t see out my right eye, but I knew one thing, I was fucking up Oden on sight, as soon as I could. I hate the day I ever met his duck ass.
  Montejha | The day it all began (Junior Year)
  “You the only one that see the real Nicki. I can show you chill Nicki cause of how you deal with me,” I sang my favorite song, ‘Best I Ever Had,’ the remix. In my own little world, listening to my mp3 player in my bed. My mother and Monte were arguing once again, for Monte staying out late. Monte was my older brother, and other sibling, he was always doing something since we were kids. My mother was always going back and forth with him about something he was doing. Like for instance, he had some girl in here, having sex with her, while my mother was downstairs napping on the couch, that was just one of the stupid things of many that he did.
